Table Tennis Grip Woes: How to Care for Your Hands and Nails

Table Tennis is one of the most popular sports in the world. Whether it is hot outside or raining, you can play Table Tennis.

It is an indoor sport that is played on a Table Tennis table with Table Tennis racquet and a Table Tennis ball.

Despite being an indoor sport, players playing Table Tennis sweat a lot. It is a high-intensity game and therefore sweat becomes an inevitable part. While sweating is good for maintaining the overall body temperature, it is not so good when it comes to handling or gripping the Table Tennis racquet during the course of play.

Often it is seen in the case of Table Tennis that players tend to lose control over their Table Tennis racquet due to sweaty palms. While they cannot avert sweat from accumulating on their palms, they can certainly take steps to keep their palms dry and sweat-free.

Here are a few steps:

Hand grip cream or GripStrong cream:

Table Tennis players play with a Table Tennis racquet. For any sport that requires its athletes to handle any sporting equipment, having a hand grip or GripStrong cream in their kit bags is a must. The need for these creams is to keep the sweat away from accumulating on the palms that hold the sporting equipment. In the case of Table Tennis, players hold Table Tennis racquets. To ensure a firm grip over the racquet despite sweaty palms, a hand grip or GripStrong cream is applied. It forms a dry barrier over the skin to prevent sweat from gathering on your palms. Also known as antiperspirant cream, it increases the friction between the players' hands and Table Tennis racquet handles. Within 30 seconds, the cream starts working.

Use an overgrip:

Table Tennis players can use the replacement grip with an overgrip combination. Doing so requires a perfect grip combination for the Table Tennis racquet that provides comfort and absorbs sweat.

Taking care of your nails:

If you are an athlete you are required to keep your nails short. Even if you are a female athlete and have a fascination for long nails, if you want to play the sport to the best of your abilities you have to let go of this fascination. It is necessary for athletes to have short nails if they are involved in sports requiring handling of the sporting equipment like a bat or racquet. Long nails can lead to injuries and therefore it is advisable to keep them short.
